Signs of Life

Signs of Life

I have come that they may have life.

John 10:10

Warriors, our God is all about life! He is the inventor, author, giver and sustainer of all life, both physical and spiritual. He wants us to be just that—men who are vibrantly and fully alive in his service.

The plum tree in our front lawn is speckled with white and purple blossoms this week. It’s the first plant in our yard to notify me that spring is nearly upon us in all its glory. The day lilies by our mailbox are beginning to burst through the mulch, the bulbs in the backyard are on the verge of blooming and there are buds blanketing our rose bushes. And soon my grass will display it’s St. Patrick’s Day pride as it sheds its brown garb of winter in favor of a beautiful green robe for spring. I love this time of year! The whole earth is about to reawaken in an explosion of colors, smells and life. The earth is trying to tell us something about its Creator.

In him was life. (John 1:4)

Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

The water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:14)

The Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (John 5:21)

I am the bread of life. (John 6:35)

I am the way and the truth and the life. (John 14:6)

Each spring we get a visual aid all around us, a living lesson right before our eyes, reminding us that God can bring life to any and every situation. What a perfect time to reflect on the state of your own heart: are you fully alive right now spiritually? Or is your heart lying dormant and cold, like grass in the winter? What signs of spiritual life are evident in you? God’s plan is to give us life to the full. That means you can and should have not just a little bit of love, a small amount of joy, a taste of peace or a sampling of victory. No! We are told in Galatians 5:23 that there is no limit to the fruit of the Spirit in our lives! We can have life to the FULL. Settle for nothing less. So go out and take a prayer walk with God this week. Go share your faith with a neighbor. Take up the sword of the Spirit and take tangible action. Resolve to be fully alive for Christ.

Ephesians 5 beckons us, “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ask yourself: what awakens my heart spiritually? What fires me up? What makes me come alive? What draws my heart to the beauty, love and power of God’s heart? Whatever that is for you, get it in your schedule and go do it. You will be opposed in this, brother. Busy-ness and distraction will rise up the moment you set out. Nevertheless, the intentional effort will be well worth it. Remember, while Jesus came that we might have life, the enemy is determined to steal, kill, and destroy that life in you (John 10:10). But when the warriors come alive for God’s Kingdom, the kingdom of darkness quakes in fear!

Several weeks ago I sat with brothers and sisters from the Columbia Church of Christ as we remembered the life of a warrior who recently passed away: Al Lopez. Tears were shed, stories were told, and this man of God was given a fitting send off. While his body has fallen asleep, his soul will live on in eternal life. It was a reminder to seize the day and fully live this life as a fitting rehearsal for the next.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” (John 11:25)

Spring is here and Easter is on the way. As we prepare to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection to new life, let’s open our hearts and lives to God, depending on His Spirit to empower us to be Warriors fully and radiantly alive in Christ this season!

Thank you for sharing this! I’m so glad you do these they are great! I’ve been so busy moving and out of town so I’ve been out of whack. Although I’m spending time with God every day I’ve been distracted and distant. This article inspires me to really tap into the giver of life! My wife and I lead a small church on the central coast of California that we planted a little over a year ago and would love for you and your family to come out and visit, speak, play….. please let me know what I need to do to make this happen:)
